I forgot the specs thankyou for saying

It simply runs better as far as I can seedracflamloc wrote:Its also much more lightweight than Windows aeropoo.
A quick comparison: Similarly loaded system with some apps running in Linux with XGL: 190mb ram. Vista Beta: 400mb
Also note that XGL runs OpenGL and doesn't have to initialize an entire environment (sound, net, etc) like DirectX does because OpenGL is graphics only. Plus OpenGL has always been faster (Why do you think every workstation in professional engineering runs an OpenGL card?)

This was pure eyecandy!
I really do not see any groundbreaking functionality!
(which is why I do not even use XP Themes or skins at all, waste of resources)
It may look cool to mix a 3d modeler with a OS GUI but that's all, it looks cool.
multiple desktops is allready supported on most modern (and older OS, like Amiga OS)
people that need to do a lot of things at once using multiple apps
tend to have multiple monitors and split desktop,
or a desktop per screen, or a mix of this.
As I said, it looks cool. But I'd rather see technological improvements in other areas of OS.
In other words, stuff like this and Vista etc do not impress me!

Here is a nice way you can test it without realy installing Linux, http://kororaa.org/static.php?page=static060318-181203 it's a live cd wich runs XGL on default did try it a few hours ago since I didn't want to risk my production Ubuntu Laptop. It's pritty amazing though font rendering is IMHO a little bit problematic at the moment. It's not as thought through as OS X but better performance then vista I think. Another amazing thing is the psychlological aspect, most Linux users know that their system is fast but there is no way to feel that this is true, however with xgl you really feel the Speed a Linux systekm can give you. Now we need better graphics drivers and some designers and Linux can compete in the desktop workstation area...

the thing that sadens me is that window etc TM got there first if only linux & excuse me XGL got there. I feel things would be a whole lot differnt...
question 1 : is there a future for Linux & XGL
question 2 : will it ever overtake windows
Problem
: Windows is so damn popular How can Linux Compete...

Kevin
