Programming for PDAs

Post by Dreamland Fantasy »

I've just ordered myself a PDA (a Dell Axim X51v to be precise). I was just wondering if anyone has any experience programming for PDAs and what tools I might need.

Wouldn't a version of PureBasic for PDAs be cool! :D

Kind regards,

Francis.

For PocketPCs, Microsoft Provides the embedded versions of VB & VC++ for free.

I use PocketC for Palm OS programs and Jamagic for Pocket PC programs.

@Brice Manuel

I was reading that the embedded version of VB (didn't know about VC++) was no longer supported and couldn't be guaranteed to be compatible with the latest versions of Windows Mobile.

I should have stated that I am more interested in writing applications software rather than games. Jamagic looks pretty good, but my first impression seems to be that it is very games orientated.

Kind regards,

Francis

I have eVB for my Compaq Aero 1550, which runs WindowsCE 3.0 ...

It's a free download from MicroSoft, since it's discontinued (they now use e.NET) LOL !

You'll probably need to dig around MS site for the support files of your PDA Cpu, if they are not in the standard eVB package

I should note that Jamagic is no longer sold (it is great for apps or 2D games though).

What?!?! :D That's very well - it was sold not long ago and haden't been updated in ages (a total rip-off if you ask me).

But I asked (not long ago) on member of Clickteam if they where coming with an update and he said yes.

Hi Num3,

If possible, can you advise what (extra) files you have on your box to support development with eVB?

Sure...

when i get home tonight i'll take a look.

From what i can remember it's just CPU addons, for several makers...

I also have a nice freeware installer that creates a distribution package to install in PDA's, but it's all for Hitachy...
