What a start to the new year!

Post by srod »

Happy new year folks. Hope yours has started better than mine!

On the return journey from visiting my mother in hospital today, I pulled over to the side of the road to answer my phone (a friend wishing me a happy new year!) I pulled over a little too far and slid down an embankment into what I can only describe as a swamp! My attempts to extricate myself from the bog from hell simply sucked me further and further into the depths, until I was 50 feet from the road and up to my arse in mud, shit, crap... This was about 1 p.m. Three hours later and with a convoy of 4 by 4's trying to drag my car out all behind me and without any glimmer of success, I had to call out John Wayne's local cowboy outfit with trucks, winches, rope, horses, helicopters, police, disapproving old women... and all on New years day! Yea ok, a slight exaggeration. They didn't have any rope! I had been warned not to leave the car where it was as it would have been stripped bare by morning. Well, another 3 hours in the pitch black, the pissing rain, the mud, the cold... Aggh, they finally dug my car out and I managed to limp home. Of course, this all cost me small (large!) fortune - and a new set of clothes!

Grrrrr....... Last time I answer the bloody phone!

Wow, that was a bad start to the New Year for you.

Here in Sydney the New Year started with 45-degree heat, which wasn't at
all pleasant. (Actually, it even reached 50 degrees [122 F] for a brief period
where I live, according to my thermometer).
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

I actually had a good new years day. My girlfirend has been down under (and not in the good way) since December 6th, and I wasn't expecting her back until January 2nd. But she phone me as soon as she walked through the door and told me she was back early!

At least you've retained your sense of humour!

I can laugh at it now I guess. Just hope the rest of the year will not follow suit!
