Just got a (Ha! Beat St. Nick to it) new Gen. 5 iPod...

For everything that's not in any way related to PureBasic. General chat etc...

Just got a (Ha! Beat St. Nick to it) new Gen. 5 iPod...

Post by Intrigued »

I hooked up the new "Video iPod" (*gasp, I said it*) and now I am wondering what folks that are early adopters like me are using (or coding?) to get videos coded proper-like for such unit, so that I can view such.

In another words, I need/want the easiest converter of various video file formats to the format(s) that this new iPod works with.

Ideas? Thanks in advance,

 You don't really think you're going to make an AVI2Ipod-Video converter with PureBasic just after you got the ipod???

Hey, play the games that are in the Extras folder of ipod, that is far better than thinking of making a converter.

I mean, sure it's possible, but you want to do it right after you got it?

I could help, but I don't have ipod.

EDIT: OK, mate, we're on christmas so don't be mad at me.
here's a link for a free tool which does the job you want:

I use a tool called Lathe for encoding for my PPC as well as the ipod. Works like a champ.

That's the sort of constructive post I'm looking for! Thanks thefool and arron!

BTW, I got the 30GB because that was all the Wal-mart had when my wife and I were shopping, but we were not even thinking of getting me a 5th gen. as I have a 3rd. gen. (which may be replaced with a new unit anyway). Yes sir, my unit is a black one too, very sleek looking. Now, I just need to get the GB of data from the old (slow) 3rd. gen. over to the 5th gen. But, the video I've watched over at the iTunes (Music > Video Podcasts) really looks sharp!

Thanks again for the suggestion on the software thefool and aaron.

*thumbs up*

Okay. I only wished the 30gbyte but here no stores had that one left :D
so they bought the 60gbyte :)

The black model is too hot!
And the usb 2.0 transfer and charging is very fast and cool. Transferring a gigabyte of data doesnt take long... Im just ripping a dvd to play @ my ipod :D

perhaps this should not be posted in the purebasic section but in the off topic section?

Oh, I read this forum section as:
General Discussion
Everything else that doesn't fall into one of the other PB categories.
But, now that you pointed such out I see way at the bottom of the forum main page there is an off topic section. Thanks for the heads up.

"Everything else" means everything else PureBasic-related, such as discussion
of encryption techniques and things like that, which isn't Off-Topic. :)
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Hi guys - I just used QuickTime to convert video for the iPod. It converts it to a (raped) version of MPeg4.

@PB, thanks. I read it to fast. I am use to such a titled section being a catchall. D'oh.

@swan, thanks. I did upgrade to QT 7 Pro yesterday. So, I'll give that a whirl as well. Thanks again.

QT 7.0.3.50 or later I think that will convert. I had to update to do it from memory.

Well, after taking a break I went back to Goog'ling and all my searching came down to the following solution ($30 for the "Universal" version) seems the best fit for my needs/wants:

http://www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/featpw.php

I like how it's (suppose to be, I have yet to buy it) setup. It seems very professional in design and implementation.

If anyone has used such, please chime in.

ps. If you purchase the "Universal" version you get free updates for life (source: ordering page, I got that far ;-))
