Error: Linker nd not found - Ubuntu Linux

Hi folks,

I installed pb under ubuntu and I can get the IDE to come up (finally) but when I try to compile anything I get the message "Error: Linker nd not found". I have searched here and havent found an answer of how to fix it yet. And I'm new to Linux so detailed instructions greatly appreciated

ld not found ? That's wierd, do you have gcc installed at all ?

Well that was it I guess. Synaptic showed GCC as being installed already (but nothing worked), but I found there were like 3 listed (at least) so I installed one of the others and then it worked.
