farewell

Post by jack »

Hello PB community, I have been visiting this forum for several years now and it has become a habit, but it's clear to me that I don't have the IQ or the stamina to become a programmer, I am a hacker at best, so I have decided to spend my time elsewhere.
freedimension and I are releasing the source code for the F64 and "qfloat wrapper" lib’s under the zlib license, so the 1 or 2 people that use the lib’s can maintain them.
Concerning the qfloat lib, remember that it's only the wrapper code that's being licensed under the zlib license, the qfloat lib is copyright by Stephen L. Moshier http://www.moshier.net/
Both projects were compiled with MSVC 6; you are on your own.

Having managed programmers for over 30 years, let me tell you, that doesn't stop most people.

Seriously, high IQ is not necessarily required, but rather the ability to "think logically" - good chess players tend to make good programmers.

Some level of stamina is required but it's in the form of "determination" - not giving up.

hate to see a member of the community "call it quits".

We'll miss you.

cheers and good luck.

You've been a great enrichment for this community. All the best!
Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.

Jack, good luck for your new way... :D

If you have nothing against that, I will also add the source archive to the userlibs on PureArea.net?

Maybe adding the libs to the PBOSL package is a good way to go...?

I would recommend to not totally leave PB programming. It sounds more like you want to hand over the managgement of the lib(s) more than quit programming altogether. I may very well be wrong. But, I dont' think you should feel you can't participate in the forums here if you do not continue with the lib updates/creations.

And...

Thanks for sharing your knowledge... no matter what decision you ultimately make.

yes, please do.
as for adding it to the PBOSL package i am not sure since PBOSL is licensed under LGPL and this 2 libs are under the zlib license. :)

:( If you don't have a high enough IQ to be a programmer, what does that say about guys like me? I don't know c/c++ or asm. Sad to see you go, jack but I hope you do well in whatever you do.

I have felt like that many times myself, but I just love PB so much that I will die with the PB logo on my coffin ;)

Anyways, it's sad to see you go, if not for programming and coding, maybe you can still stop by everynow and then and chat in the forum?

Take care :)
