Hi All,
Yes, I have checked out the game code archive and cannot find what I am looking for. I would like to know if someone has been successful in creating a FPS game (like Doom3, Quake, NOLF, etc) using the 3dEngine in PureBasic. I come from DarkBasic, and am still dismayed at the bugs that DBPro has. I like PureBasic alot and use it for DLLs exclusively, but would like to see if 3D gaming is feasible with it. Pure Racer seemed to have potential, however, I learned that it was done with 3D sprites and not Ogre, plus I can't find a valid link to download it anywhere (please post if you know of a mirror).
I believe that the potential for PB/Ogre is there, as evidenced by Walaber's Stunt Playground using Ogre (coded in C++). Link: http://walaber.com/sp.htm.
Also, I have been successful in loading a BSP into PB/Ogre but it does not render the same as DBPro (which is DirectX 9.0c only). For one thing, the lights are displayed as white objects and not as directional lights. I am not crazy about BSP anyway, and would prefer to use meshes.
I have been researching engines for the the past couple of years and have yet to find one that is adequate (and don't have mortgage my house for). If DBPro did what it says it does, I would never have jumped over to PureBasic, but find it to be a much superior language in many ways and am glad I did. I am not afraid to code my own framework either, if the engine is adequate and provides the tools necessary to do it, but before I start investing a lot of time, I want to make sure it works, and the easiest way is to see if someone else has done something like it, hence this post.
Sorry if this is long-winded, but I know I can't be the only one out there in this situation. Better stop now before I start ranting about my other pet peeve, occlusion culling.
Thanks in advance.
Looking for a First-Person Shooter (FPS) Example.
