Is it a problem for the future developements of PB ?
PB does not use openGL.
PB does not use openGL.
win10 x64 5.72 | IDE | PB plugin | Tools | Sprite | JSON | visual toolNo, its just that MS wont keep on developing their opengl driver (Which made most of the things by software) today you cant use that driver on games, thats why you need to install your gfx card's vendor drivers. They wont work on it anymore (as if they did this days though....) as they preffer to have everyone using DX, but either way, they dont want to waste 1 dollar on opengl, but on their api.
So don't worry, you do have to worry on your gfx card vendor to develop vista OGL drivers though. Either way if they dont do it, someone will. But we are definetly NOT in front of "glide" again. Im sure that OpenGL wont become obsolete from a day to the other.
For sure DX10 will be cross-platform (or intend to), but OGL will still be used, and loved by many developers (well not loved, but.. you get my point). And whats better, palm is using / going to: OGL and not DX for their products. (at least i've been told by someone who works at palm). Got a lifedrive at home, its not that good... but next models will have 3d support with OGL.

MS hasn't provided support for OpenGL for years. XP ships with only "software" OGL drivers for XP. To get hardware support for OpenGL you need to install the drivers for your video card. In vista, you just won't be able to run the Malibu Barbie GUI system while running an OGL game, which is not a bad thing. Vista's GUI is far worse and more resource hogging than XP's.no more OpenGL for windows Vista... Is it true ?
Wow thats like.. what I said?

In a tv program from here.. a microsoft guy was showing some of Vista's features... for short, he had 10 minutes to describe as much as possible, all the new stuff, whats hot, etc.. he said that there wont be any more "My ..." but "describing" sections all arround the OS.. after he described it, one of the guys from the program staff had a talk.. and said: well, basically you guys just changed from "My Documents" to "Documents" and did the same to every name, made it nicer to the eye and thats just about all... The MS guy was all mad hehe. but the guy had a point, the MS guy didnt describe anything about the OS' core... not even talked about performance, or any other important thing. it was just the basic speech of what a teenager would like to hear and not what a developer would like to hear, nor a power user or even the normal user who uses his pc for working and some casual gaming...
Oh well..

??? Why would anyone want to run Barbie Malibu on his system? In vista, you just won't be able to run the Malibu Barbie GUI system while running an OGL game
That if you don't have a good gfxcard. But indeed.Vista's GUI is far worse and more resource hogging than XP's.

It is pretty sad when you need a $400 video card just to run the "new" GUI system that is using shaders and blending. Sheesh!! Can you imagine trying to get a game running decently when the GUI system itself has so much overhead? Of course, with PB moving to dropping 2D and emulating it via DX9's 3D, that will be even more overhead your games will be using. Ack!!That if you don't have a good gfxcard.

Microsoft doesn't want developers to use Windows, because they are themself developers. If they would want it they would be very very stupid, because they would allow their business competition to use their OS.
But why the hell do you need those aeroglasses with hardware acceleration? You will need a quad core(which will come 2006 with Windows Vista) for this crap.

Brice Manuel: if the graphical system of VISTA is well designed, the minimum it can do is stop rendering when not seen
so don't worry. of course, if theres extra memory, the bitmaps will still be held there. And well, if you work on the market of game development, graphical design, etc.. you already have a powerful workstation... those who doesnt, well.. I dont care
I've tryed some betas of VISTA, its ok, dont look at the unfinished parts and you might like it. judge it in its current state and you diserve to die...
DarkDragon: come on..
Look on some forums.. back when XP was going to come out... everyone said the same things... now I bet you're under XP DarkDragon..

If MS is developing it, I wouldn't hold my breath. At least with XP they went with StarDock for the Malibu Barbie skinning system and didn't try writing it themselves.Brice Manuel: if the graphical system of VISTA is well designed,
I could care less, as I have no plans to buy a new computer for several years and out of the nine systems I have, none of them are powerful enough to run Vista. With PB dropping 2D support, I am already porting my games over to a different language. So if PB is compatible or not, wouldn't be an issue for me.
