First Purebasic

Post by Inf0Byt3 »

Hi folks. I was just wondering, does anyone have the first PureBasic version? 1.0 - 2.0 or so? I'd like to check it out :D.

 I always enjoy watching first releases of anything, I don't really know whats so great about doing it, I guess that you get to see both sides and you realise how much work was put on it (or how little, depends).

Yes, that's the reason. I'm very curious about how was the syntax like, the asm output, etc. It would be very nice to have it :D

The earliest version I ever had was 3.92. Maybe Fred could keep a repository of every version of PB - for nostalgic and backwards compatability reasons (only for registered users though!).

I have v2.40, which is fairly early. :)

I can't give you a copy, but here's some screenshots which show just how far
the language has come. Note that back then there was no Visual Designer for
it either. These screenshots were taken under Windows XP, which is why they
don't look so good... but I guess that shows how well the latest version of
PureBasic has adapted! ;)

Note about the Manual screenshot above: every topic in the Manual is seen
in the screenshot -- the scrollbar makes it appear that there's more to view,
but it's only white space below the Inlined x86 ASM topic.
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Why can't you give me a copy? I am a registred user.
Thanks for the screenshots :D. It looks awesome even for such an early version . I really like Killswitch's idea about a repository. We could have the whole collection...

[Edit]
Oh, I know... It's because of the license, right?

IIRC:

Purebasic started life as a command set expansion for BlitzBasic on the Amiga called NCS (New Command Set). After that Mark Sibly dropped support for Blitz on the Amiga much to the dissapointment of lots of people so Fred decided to make NCS into a full blown language for the Amiga. Fred only decided to support windows after a bet from a friend! ;) After v1.60 MS windows support was added.

I don't think there was a public released v1 of Purebasic, v1 to v1.5 was alpha, then up to v2 was closed beta. I think PB has one of the earliest publically available versions.

Yes, v2.0 was the first public version.
Good programmers don't comment their code. It was hard to write, should be hard to read.

From the v2.40 manual:
22 October 2000 : Version 2.00 PR 1
- First public release of PureBasic x86. For testing purpose only
I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Nah, not me, it was one of his university friends who asked him why he was supporting a dead platform (Amiga) and Fred said it was no hard task to port the source to x86 or any other cpu, So his m8 said go on then show me! :) Fred then learned WinAPI using ASM!!!

What do you mean? Do you want a copy of the Manual? That'd be up to Fred.
If he says it's okay, I'll zip it up and put a link to it here.

BTW, here's an archive of how PureBasic.com looked on Feb 01, 2001:
