PB5.31 (32bit) on Windows 98

Post by bohne_68 »

Hallo,

Today I have been installed the latest Version 5.31 (32bit) of Purebasic on an old Notebook with Windows 98 using the normal sources from the repository. According the system requirements it should work normally.

The program itself "start's" with the message:

Code: Select all

Cannot Initialize Scintilla engine!
Make sure the 'sintilla.dll' is placed in the 'Compiler' subdirectory of your PureBasic setup.

Does sombody know, what is going wrong?

Thanks in advance
Thomas

I think, the scintilla.dll doesn't support win 98, as the most new software. You should download an older version of scintilla.dll.

I think you have to download an older version of PB with the old IDE with the old Scintilla Gadget.
A replace of the DLL is critical.
I think PureBasic 5.24 LTS is good.

There only some structures and constants declared, that not available, but older version should work as expected!

But you are right, older version is better to support older OS.

PureBasic 5.31 (32 or 64bits)

In the PureBasic - Helpfile, under ' Requirements ' section. As stated:

"PureBasic will run on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 (in both 32-bit and 64-bit edition), Linux (kernel 2.2 or above) and MacOS X (10.5 or above)."

 Favouritism! We know where the German packages falls now! Don't feel bad, I know that French packages falls before English.

That blog was written in May 22, 2009

Clearly, it refers to a much older (6 years) version of PureBasic. If you are a paid-up customer, you have access to most of the earlier versions via your account.

It still says "Windows 9x/ME" on www.purebasic.com/introduction_windows.php though. ;)
