Just for a little entertainment here, a little poll on the average beginner at this forum. quite much feel like the rookieest one inhere.

I can allready tell you, mine is the highest one in the row.
actually started programming when i was about 8 years old on a Commodore 64!!, but still a rookie,

There isnt really a choice for me... I just got PB a few months ago, but I have been programming for 3 or 4 years. Used to make 2D games, then 3D, but with PB I have been making a ton of apps and graphic demos mostly. I am definitely not a pro, didnt go to school for any programming, but Im pretty average.

There's really not a choice for me there either... lol

I started programming.. well.. about 10-11 years ago...
I started messing around with GW-Basic on the 8088 computer we had at home..
Then I did a little in M$ Basic on the Amiga (YES, you heard right!!!)...
But I really only got started using Amos... I wanted to play around with BlitzBasic for the Amiga, but I never really got into it.. seemed too greek to me.. :p (no wonder, when Amos sounds logical to you..hehe)
Then I did some 6502 assembler programming during school (2nd year electronics)..
Then, when I did my third year at school (service electronics with a major in computer technics), we learned Turbo Pascal.. weeee.. lol.. no really.. it's actually a nice and fast language..
That lead me on to a little bit of Delphi..

Then I didn't really didn't do much programming for a couple of years.. until I bought BlitzBasic for the PC (which is a lot of fun)...
Then the lackings of Blitx lead me here.. and I've been programming in PB since I registered.. see below my avatar..

During my time with PB, I've also been experimenting with C(++) and Java... (btw: we need OOP in PB!!!!!!!)

So.. that's my story... (C)2004

I'm one of the *a little quickbasic* types.

It was only after i bought PB, that i really got into coding again.
I was learning quickly though. from 0 windows coding knowledge to
writing librarys and stuff in a very short time

PB was an excelent platform to start from.
I never thought i would ever start with C at that time.
Now i'm kind of addicted to it, too.

hehe, quite funny to read some about the background of the forum members. allready one member with Q-basic experience...

yeah, QB was fun. coded my own GUI with loads of gadgets and stuff in svga.
only problem was that 640k memory limit, that i always used to hit, so
i dumped it.

i managed to create some "internal compiler error, please send us this file"
stuff, but i guess MS wasn't interested anymore at that time

I got started on the Apple ][e when they were outdated... I made an AI program and some stick figure game when I was in middleschool...
Got my first PC (Pentium 233mmx) my second year at highschool... I used to love QB even tho' it was a decade old... When I was in highschool I wrote a mario clone w/ a zooming camera... He could throw bricks and use flame throwers and heat-seaking rocket launchers... The goombas were "Super Intelligent" and would do jump attacks and eat your corpse... I was a troubled kid
I never finished it....
I then got into C and DirectX... I wrote another half-game in that...
Then DXC (DX Creator)....
Then DarkBasic...... then DBPro.....
Now I'm here!
And very happy w/ PB I might add...
I'm thinking of getting into C++ as well to learn a bit more...

PureBasic (hallejulia Brother! )

PureBasic is by far my favourite now! I also love Python and think all nasty Perl should be replaced by it! I'm now thinking about learning ASM for a laugh too.

Hehehe, okay, that's hard to argue against, I must admit.

My First home computer:
Commodore Pet 2001 - Circa 1977
Cassette Recorder for Storage
Basic in ROM
We wore the 'A' key off the keyboard.
It was the fire button for 'Space Invaders'
Peek and Poke were vital language elements.

Many, many other languages, applications and computers since then.

Let's just say I have forgotten way more than I know.

I'd like to settle in to a nice language like Purebasic for as long as possible.

I only started coding PB recently, but before that I knew ASP (ugh), VB (double ugh), Blitz, PHP and C++

edit: And quite a lot of Javascript, most of which I've forgotton by now

I think you should have included another category in your poll, for people who like myself have used about 5 versions of basic both on a PC and an Amiga, several odd languages for specific purposes and in the days when it was the only way to get speed written in assembly language. This rather puts me out of the beginners category, but I certainly would not claim to be an expert! The nearest category of yours is the one saying I have taken lessons in programming, although I never have, as it is between the beginner and expert categories and the one that I said. I did however nearly take a job teaching programming at a community centre some years ago in my Amiga days as I knew more about the operating system on that where you had to program in assembler to get results than I think I have any hope of ever learning about Windows. If it wasn't for PB I would not be able to do what, with everyones help here, I am able to do now.
