FPS Test 2

Hey fellow PB Programmers! Thanks for everyones help on my last project!!!

Please help me on my new one... I need to know the framerate you are getting.... I am still kinda new in programming so I don't exactly know what kinds of loops and commands will slow a program down. And since I have such a fast computer, when I make a program it is usually slow on a computer with normal speed.... Thats where you come in... I need to know how fast my programs run on normal computers to make my code more efficient.

Is there any way to test what a game looks like on a slower computer if you don't have a slow computer? Like slowing your own computer down to test out a program?

Anyway, you can download the first test at: http://www.1matthew.com/downloads/FollowDemo.zip it is only 60k and the source is included. If you can help me out that would be great.

Thanks.

Hi Driak,

I did the test on my System:

AMD 2000xp+, 1800mhz
GForce 5200 with AGP8X( NVidia)
512mb Ram

With 84 FPS without change either if I move my mouse slow/fast around the screen.

That's Rock!

Hi,

I run 58-59 fps, but clicked the wrong option (21-40).

So sub 1 from there, add 1 to (41-60). Sorry.

And that is a neat, flickerfree, cleanscreen demo.

Steady 84 - 85, being that 85 is my refresh rate. Nice star effect. :D

I get 50 FPS with the "clone" tv option of the nvidia activated.
With "clone" desactivated, I get 75 FPS (this is the refresh rate of my TFT monitor).

Awsome, thank you everyone! :D

I need some help tho... If you position your crosshair directly over the ship (where the middle fin and the body meet) the ship disappears. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem?

PC1 (k6-266, Win98SE, Sparkle S3/Virge DX graphics) reports:
Error loading Mouse!
Error loading Keyboard!
Error loading DirectX!
Error loading DirectX!

Then GPFs

PC2 (P-75 Win98SE onboard graphics) does the same

PC3 (Win98fe k6-III/450, ATi Expert@play graphics) produces a star field and a mouse cursor but nothing else, runs for 2 seconds then quits and reports 29 or 30fps.

That is actually quite hard to do (position cursor exactly to make the ship vanish).

I don't know why the ship disappears and can only come up with an inelegant solution, along the lines of:

Code: Select all

If SpritePixelCollision(etc) <> 1
  PlayerX + PlayerXS
  PlayerY + PlayerYS
  AddSmoke(etc)
Else ; klurge
  PlayerX - 0.1
  PlayerY - 0.1
EndIf
Your code is pretty neat, BTW.

WOW. . . . . . 8O 8O 8O

I am amazed - I feel sorry for you. I don't konw why my program doesn't work on your Windows98 Computer, but everyone else seems to work... Do ANY programs made in PB work for you? Must be a compatability issue with Win98?
