hi, all. currently, i'm doing some directX prorgamming....it's not easy as i'm new to this....

the problem is how could i play AVI or MPEG or any video format file with sound only?? i need trigger out the amplitude of the sound wave and draw it with a time line.....

This is not the best solution (it sucks, actually), but it works... it basically
plays the movie on an invisible window... hehehe.

You can open some movie types with FMOD and play back the audio stream. I am not sure if that works with all types of movies.... http://www.fmod.org
