Idea on collaboration

If you think this idea sux, don't post. That way it will sink into deserved oblivion.
Conversely, if you think it woth pursuing, post.
The idea is to start a couple of collaborative projects and get them to a pre-agreed final core level - this to be a working product but without sexy bells and whistles.
The core products are then released on some of the great support sites here in source format. Anyone can do what they want with them thereafter, commercial or not.
The objectives of the project would be:
A: Sharing of knowledge and skills;
B: Putting something sexy out there that grabs the attention of non-PB peeps and hopefully adds them to the PB community
C: Maybe the dynamics lead to the creation of a small team that goes on to fame and glory
D: Maybe the framework of the core product gives someone a boost in getting a package going.
Example projects - Games - tuxracer, warcraft; a full-on FTP client; A general ledger. Whatever grabs interest, and several collaborations could be on at once with different configs of people.
To work the project would need people with different and not just programming skills. Communication skills (docs) and co-ordination skills (admin of project) and artistic, etc, would all be useful.
As mentioned before, if the basic concept is poor, don't post.
