PureBasic Forums - English

I think Fred should link to the unofficial discord for PB on the main site, to keep the community going. I can't remember who runs it (@raros I think), but it's got a handful of regular users. IRC is dead, and the forums are less active now.

Since there's no official one, what do you think? Maybe adopt it on https://www.purebasic.com/support.php?

Not sure how giving people access to a discord splits the community, since it's regular forum users in there, and it's been active for a while. Only downside I see is that it's unofficial, so maybe linking it on the main site is not appropriate - but my idea is to keep the community going, not to divide it.

Discord is noisy.
I prefer this forum which does lack upvotes and file storage.
Super annoying when stumbling upon dead links.

Fully agree with you!
Dont like me social networks. The forum is clean and the members (mostly, not all ) are ready to help and share.
Some even appreciate it when you share.
No need register to see what are you looking for.
With all due respect to the social networks users. I think the mathematical formula of a social network is: Ego * stupidity = social network
PB forum for ever!!

I don't use any social media platform since years ago. Yesterday I went to this discord ( first time ever in discord. )
I don't have opinions yet, but still prefer the forums.

The PureBasic Discord server is not a forum. It is more a newer alternative to the old IRC, where you can share media more easily. We're idling there for quite a while already. It's not a replacement, but an extension.

However I also admit that there are fewer and fewer people active across the community and that multiple communication channels could make it even worse.

I've been on that Discord site for a while but nothing ever happens there. Just a bunch of people saying "Hi" and that's it. But I also don't want to visit two separate sites (there and here) for my PureBasic needs.

I also look in Discord sometimes. But, without being bad, someone is constantly trolling his pictures in there.

That annoys me a little

I am an Affinity (an Adobe alternative) user, and they recently shut down the forums, and directed everybody to start using their new official discord server. It's a mess.

I love discord and think it's great for many types of content and communities, but as a substitute for a support forum, the experience is far from ideal.

I don't think discord is a suitable solution for a less active forum. Instead, it splits the community into two for little benefit.

From what I've seen, only the German channel on discord ever has real conversations. The others all seem to be dead or doing not much.

My only use for it in real terms is to talk to my fellow amateur radio amateurs as for the PB one, there is never much going on.

And I check the Forum several times a day, more useful.

The current English, German, and French forums are indeed essential. Discord is a complement for dynamic conversations on topics related to PureBasic, but also on other topics that have no place in the PureBasic forums. We also get to know each other better on Discord

Discord is for chat in realtime, interact each other in direct than in this forum, it is a chat very modern for all purpose and especially to gamers, voilà
