I stumbled across this entry by chance. While I'm not currently using a VM, this also works under the same conditions (Ubuntu 24.04) in LMDE 6 Faye. I always perform the distribution updates much later, this saves me from the constant flood of updates from Mint, the rest of the system maintenance from Debian is perfectly sufficient for me.
