Some would argue that in the age of Discord us using phpBB is strange.

(for the record, I am not these "some")

These are diffirent thinks

Icq is instant messaging.competing skype/fb messenger etc
Discord is group/channel real live messaging a mix between irc/icq/skype
phpBB is a FORUM . In web forums these are static conversations per topic structured in categories
Fully searchable. Web sites in a bit like books , i.e. always available and in library so you can see every time

Webforum ,is a complete diffirent thing from discord....

Oot but discord for me is very very difficult to use... Nevr like it...

Mine might have been even older. Can't remember the number but it had 7 digits.
Must have been over 25 years ago.
Anyone remember Trillian?

I used Trillian and Astra.

But I loved Messenger2... a 300KB Messenger, which supported ICQ, MSN, IRC, AOL and some more protocols

Waw! I never heard about Trillian nor Astra. If they are older than ICQ , then you have definitely given yourselves away as older than other people here (me for example), else you are younger.

I started with Trillian not long after it was released and paid for an Astra license. Who knows how many centuries ago that was. Astra wasn't too bad.

trillian messenger2 pidgin etc are not "messaging networks" like ICQ/MSN MESSENGER/SKYPE
they are just multiclient that connect to existing infrastructures, so i see no comparison to ICQ

trillian/pidgin etc btw still exist

@plouf

Sorry for going OT in an OT post.
Anyone remember The Royal Mail? That used to be a good messaging network. ;)

@Psychophanta

Yes, I'm quite old. The clue is in the name. :)
