"save project"

I feel like I've requested this before, sorry if I did...I couldn't find it.
I have a tool that runs after a build, it compresses the project. (well; since it doesn't know the project file, it compresses all projects in that folder; but I digress)
If I add files to the project, I have to close the project & re-open it for those changes to be written so a tool can process the all the files.
Another issue, I made a lot of changes to a project (changed names, versions, info, sources, etc) and the editor hung... every change was lost, took me a 1/2 hour to redo all of it.
SO: Can we please have a 'save project' or better - automatically write the changes when you make them, rather than waiting for the program to end or closing the project?
