Can anyone tell me why people have websites about trying to get your internet to work? It just doesn't make any sense.

It makes sense if you're at a friend's place and can print out the info to
take home with you. ;)

A similar question is: why do dictionaries exist? If you can't spell the
word then how can you look it up?

Hehe, i work in a computer company, and we have a client who always send an email to us - relayed over his local mailserver - when he can't surf on the net.
This same guy already did this 4-5 times this year. Image

of course we get this message couple of hours later after he phoned us :)

Yes, the ISP business is wonderful. I get email from clients all the time saying "I can't send email.."

That's like calling someone and telling them that your phone doesn't work! :-)

People are crazy!

But that's not so silly as it sounds -- I've had e-mail outages in the past
and couldn't send mail out of my ISP's domain (or whatever it is). That
is, I could e-mail them to let them know, and they replied with "Yep, all
outgoing mail is currently affected".

Very true, I actually ran into this just yesterday with one customer's domain. Still, it sounds funny :-)
