Whisky and MacOS Sonoma

Hi there,

until recent, I had Parallels with Windows 11 installed to convert my MacOS-based PureBasic code to windows. A few days ago, I learned about Whisky: https://github.com/Whisky-App/Whisky, which is a tool to install Apples Game Porting Toolkit and use it for playing games and running software on MacOS. It uses Wine under the hood. Yes, there are Winebootler and some similar tools, but this one works very well!

However, I installed the x64-version of PB for Windows, and it runs quite good on my 14" MacBook M2. The toolbar is displayed much too small, but that is not a big deal, as the functions are on the menu as well. And I had to set the dpi-settings to 130.

Even Cyberpunk 2077 starts and runs quite smooth in the first minutes. Will try later with a gamepad...

Deleting Parallels and removing Windows soon :-)

I have somebody testing some 9 year old code for me, on an M1 they are using UTM and actually getting better framerates than on Windows itself.

I tried UTM as well, good tool. But you need a Windows license as well.

Well, I have a win box (I mean hardware, but also some virtual ones...) and it's full of good games... it was not very easy to make some of the dated ones to run, and updating the os is, every single time... I'll stop here because I don't wanna hurt the majority of this forum (Respect!)

About gaming on mac: I'll stop here

I absolutely feel you, there have to be improvements on Gaming on the Mac :-)
However, Cyberpunk IS running, and the framerate is not too shabby!

Just wanted to share, if anybody is on macOS Sonoma (and avoids Windows like me) and quickly needs to check, if their code is running under Windows as well.

This is an applescript to make a switch pro controller "trigger keyboard keys" on monterey 😭😭😭

Code: Select all

do shell script "/opt/homebrew/bin/blueutil -p 1"
tell application "Enjoyable" to activate
tell application "JoyKeyMapper" to activate
tell application "Enjoyable"
	activate
display dialog "Please connect bluetooth joystick" buttons {"OK"} default button "OK"
end tell
tell application "JoyKeyMapper" to quit
I like challenges…… 😭😭😭……

Back in the day I had Apple's Gaming Console and ended up selling it for quite a bit to a collector.

Some options to use old Joysticks on new Macs: Karabiner-Elements, Recontrol, Gamepad Mapper
