Any good "working" code editor for linux?

Its becoming a pain to code in linux because of lack of a good code editor. I use Kwrite with a custom syntax highlight file, but that doesnt allow multiple tabbed documents. I use gEdit because it does allow tabbed docs but doesnt have syntax highligting. And niether have an option for a one button compile.
I tried LinView, even got a pre-edition of his 0.3 version, but both 0.2 and 0.3 give fatal errors. I tried using the included editor via Wine, but the buttons dont apear and it stalls compiling (and it will only compile with the windows compiler)
Anyone know of any good linux source code editors?

I use the windows IDE to code on linux
I run samba, edit on windows, save, and press arrow-up and enter in linux to compile
But actualy, a editor for linux with synax highlighting would be cool.

well LinView looks great, just doesnt work

(for me) 0.2 loads gives a fatal error but stays open, I can click on any button or form and some load some dont but they all give fatal errors, no settings save, I cannot open any files, etcc... 0.3 gives that inital error again (but in console this time) and doesnt start.
The developer has been talking to me through email trying to get it working for me but to no avail.
Kwrite is good if you dont mind no tabbed coding. I have a syntax file that I just need to fix comments on and I could give that out, but there isnt a compile button, no tabbed documents, and no procedure list.

There is a syntax file for Glimmer, but i could not get it to run, seems the development is stopped.

Yeah I have the syntax file for Glimmer (although the readme says it doesnt have commands highlited yet) But I have never used it. And cant. It seems it asks for gyGTK which I already have installed...
It would be nice if someone replaced those API in the source for the windows editor...so we could have it too.
Except the windows editor is extreemly buggy. It uses an RTF box which is crap, if I cut and copy some code from the help file or something and paste it into the windows editor, I get all sorts of odd formating and font changes. I have to paste everything in notepad first to remove formating.

fr34k has wrote a syntax highlightning file for Kate, a descent code editor and it seems to work pretty good.

Info:
The file goes in /usr/share/apps/katepart/syntax/
You have to restart Kate/Kwrite so it is loaded.
At first, the Kate standart colors are used, which are imho quite ugly
The colors can be customized in the Kate configuration menu.
Another tip:
With this file installed, you can select a block of code, and use tools/comment
or uncomment, to comment the whole block.
