If you want to protest this one of the only things you can do(and effectively) is to switch to any non-chromium based browser such as Firefox.

We all know(at least we should know, as we're all of the nerdy variety here) that DRM never works and yet one of the largest monopolies on earth think it's a fantastic idea.

...or use AdGuard in your hom enetwork and Blokada outside. Just because you cannot install an adblocker into your browser doesn't mean you can't block ads.

Yes but the point is they are drafting a standard for DRM on the internet and because nearly every browser is chromium-based this is a big deal. If this does become standard then it means your every day browsing experience will change for the worse and there won't be much you can do about it. This could also mean your favorite websites will be forced operate in compliance with DRM.

Years ago the huge wave of ads and paywalls rolled into the internet. Today you can't read most news articles without paying and the internet is basically a giant adspace (Simpson's predicted this too).
We learned to ignore the the ads how they are today and we will find ways to bypass them in the future.

But I understand that you are worried and this topic need attention!

Sick of how Google thinks it's the "internet police". Just stick to being a search engine! And yes, I use Firefox.

I'm currently working on an app for a client which has a browser based UI ( Tabulator is the only third-party component in the app, otherwise it's just standard browser widgets ) and so I'm regularly testing using common browsers for Windows (Chrome, Edge, Firefox). I don't know if it's a general rule or just an anomaly with my particular app but Firefox is MILES FASTER than the others. It's not even close.

I've always stuck with Firefox because I suspect Chrome and Edge are spyware but the difference in performance has made me wonder why anybody is using Chrome anyway.

Good, I never liked Chrome since it's from Google.

"Capitalist" Google went to "communist" China many years ago to help the government censor and hunt dissidents. There is slave labor among the human rights abuses and total surveillance. Google wouldn't exist today if they had done the same in nazi Germany; but China still stays, because it's the jewel of the "capitalists". If people were able to use logic and common sense outside of their profession, and had time and guts to think about what is going on, there would be a "revolution".

When someone makes himself accomplice to crimes against humanity, I think trust should be gone out the window. How does it work out to go over to your "enemy" and give him all or most of your secrets. Why would you help China to control it's population; it's not very American to do so (freedom of expression etc.) and there are also the UN chartas, and officially they are ideological enemies. Words and deeds don't fit.

Of course DRM is useful for censoring content like documentaries about human rights abuses and political corruption. The trend is to design new hardware with censoring interfaces, and those dedicated cryptography chips like TPM. There will be blacklists of certain words that will be blocked or raise an alert on hardware level in the future politically correct CPU's.

these are passive background DNS requests, made by Edge and firefox, I have no extensions and only page open is forum and purebasic home page. I think it s safe to say they're both slurping data. Edge is worse though and MS teams is probably VS related.

Don't forget Opera and there are several open source browser projects. If google does something really stupid, i expect one of the open source web browser projects to get a lot new help and a windows port

Or you can simply run a linux browser on windows. So i don't see a reason to panic yet ...

Don't forget that the Opera HTML renderer is the same as Chrome's: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blink_(browser_engine)
But I am not sure if Blink is directly related to the changes Google makes now. It at least belongs to Chromium.

Do you think that will change anything? That kind of DRM can be implemented on every operating system if I am not wrong.
