Harddisc space

Howdy ho!

Strage behavior today on my WinXP (including servicepack and all patches):

I deleted a 32 Gigabyte MediaFile on my 160 Gig Partition. The file is gone and the space with it. Now the 32 Giga are left anywhere on the drive and I can not access them anymore.
My Recycler is disabled. I tried chkdsk and defrag but I can not find the empty 32 Gigabyte on my NTFS partition anymore. What is that? Where are these 32 Gigabye and what can I do to get them back? What can I do to obtain this Problem in the future?

Cheers
Mike

avoid instead of obtain, i guess :-)

do you remember the name of the file? is it marked somewhere as 'hidden' 'system'? what filesystem did you use? did you empty the trashcan? by hand?

NTFS, no hidden files anywhere on that drive, filename was "Türkeiurlaub-ms.avi" Trashcan is disabled so no need to clear them by handy. its emty, everytime. :-(

Did you try that little "Disk Cleanup" utility that comes with XP? It looks like it just looks for all temp files and stuff in the recycle bin but it might see something you missed so it's worth a shot!
