Hardware Standards?

what are the standard of computers now from what i guessing it would be around 1gig p3 256meg of ram with some 3D card sound card and 30 gig harddrive
i not entirely sure and it is kinda importent to know this

It's more like 2 GHz (or higher) P4 with 256/512 MB SD/RD RAM, 80/120 GB HDD, and a good 3D card..

DX486-100, 16 mb ram, 1 gb hdisk, 4xcdrom and win89 of course.

it's really hard to call any of these "standards"
averages might be a better word for it. anyhow, i think we'll find that the hardware people will have may differ quite a bit because of where they live. i don't know that... but i think i'll make a poll for it

uh i still have a old '91 harddrive in my computer still works too pretty good
too
(210meg of space)

I have a working P75 sitting here with Windows 95 on it
I don't really use it for anything though... I use my other PII 400 quite a bit for testing on Win98..

I didn't mean that was the kind of computer I had.. I've got an Compaq PIII 800 kindof-old-computer.. LOL
I thought you wanted to know what kind of computer is the average if you buy a new one from the store as of today...

well i still using my old 386 but it is been upgraded so many times it not funny
some people may consider this a new computer. now, it is a p4 2.4 (overclocked to 2.66) has a radon 9100, sblive sound,3 hdd frist 30 second 10 , and of course 210, then i have my dvdrom
i think the onlything that still the same is the screws and the dust LOL
edit i forgot my power cable is the last (real) proof that my computer is still the old 386 upgraded it has a big black box in the middle of the cord that says "PC saver" dunno what it does exactly but it has a red light on it....

My notebook is a Pentium 133 with a 1.2 Gb hardrive, 96mb of ram, and a 800x600 LCD screen... (PB runs quite well)

Ha, i can beat that, if i remember right, there's a Laptop lying around here
with 8 MHz, and 2 720KB Disk drives.
Hmm, can that be considered a minimum standart??

Hehe, at my parents house, we've got a computer..
It's an old IBM 8088, runs at 7 MHz (can be boosted to 9.54), with (upgraded) 1 MB RAM, and one 5 1/4 " diskdrive, and a Hercules Monochrome videocard... hehe
Oh.. I forgot.. we've even got a HDD in it.. it's on 20 MB... Wow.. thath computer ROCKED when we bought it...

Ha, my computer can be set down to 3 MHz (and some squashed) but at least it has got a color monitor.

Well, if the contest is "how low can you go" how's this: 6502 1MHz, HEX keypad and HEX LED display with 8O ... a cassette interface. Bought around 1978/79 and still working when I last tried a couple of years ago. No, I'm not using it to type this.
Comps:
2 x PIII 600MHz, 512M RAM, win98se/linux (dual boot)
1 x PIII 200MHz AJP7200 laptop (huge!)
1 x PIII 266MHz Sony VAIO (oh so slim)
1 x PIII 200MHz NovaTech (generic base unit thingy but *the* most reliable!)
(now if only I could combine them all into one box
)
Gfx cards:
NV GF256, NV GF2 ?, NV GF2 MX400, Xabre AG200, plus collection of various oldies stuffed away in cuboards and drawers.
