Well, what's your problem then?
First steps:
1) Start the program and provide your user (nick) name.
2) Choose server and port to connect to.
If the server can't be found, you have to start your own (button "Start Server" button in window after trying to connect)
Of course it's only half the fun if you're the only one connected to a server

looks promising, but you should have provided a server to connect to for the testing
anyhow, i'd be more interested in seeing the source than chatting with myself *hint* *hint* of course i can understand if you don't want to share the source, there's a few things i'm working on that i feel the same way about.
anyhow, keep up the good work.

Superb idea, that server thingy: Anybody eager to provide a server 4 the rest of the world

?

I have to disappoint you, i'm not releasing the full source. If you're interested how i solved this or that, i'll happily provide you with this part of the sources.

Thanks, but there MUST be bugs, please find 'em

there are a lot of 'chat' progs around here that comes also with source (See resource-site for example) also a IRC-client.No need for an other 'Only-EXE' one .

Source is only one side of the medal (although important sometimes).
Have a look at the features and stability (especially the network code), too.
Then decide what to use
If you find my giveaway useful, i'm glad i could support you.
If not, never mind and use whatever satisfies you most.

Third version is out now.
Including minor bug fixes, encrypted communication and an enhanced configuration dialog.

Thats not fair i think... because he is asking us to beta test the application and report busg and thats valid, even when he is not making public the source code.
-------------
My testing:
A very nice program, estable and not CPU consuming.
Suggestions:
-Find a way for the Dynamic IPs on the server. How do my buddies will know it. Maybe you can make it work with some free no-ip services.
-Possibilitie to store privates received when 'away'
-Avatars
Good luck!!

Specifying sound: Not possible right now (and it's a real pain in the neck when loads of messages coming in and a "longer/louder" sound is used). Shouldn't be too much hassle to implement, though
DNS/IP-Service: Already works fine with those providers but doesn't implement the announcement (at the servers) itself. There are more spezialized tools (or hardware routers) you can use for such issues.
New version is almost on it's way (heavily tested now) and includes:
Topics (=rooms), groups (=buddies) and loads of changes/improvements (answer to last whisper, version control, connection watchdogs, auto update, ...)

Almost forgot:
Ricardo, what do you mean with

Nope, these are 2 completely different "products", although they are both chat systems
