Hello,

I just downloaded the PB demo version for Linux, and I have installed it... but now, I don't know how to launch the editor :-(
Is there an editor for linux also, and if yes, what do I have to type in a console to launch it ??

Thanks a lot in advance for any help !!

Hi Psycoach;

there is no IDE delivered for PB/Linux, but this thread might help you to find a suitable editor:

viewtopic.php?t=5080

One editor mentioned there is written in Java (I think the author is Ralf Hansen)

If you have difficulties with the german website, give me a holla.

Hallo,

Thanks for your help : I have downloaded and installed the editor (I read and write German, so it's ok ;-) )

My question is now a real newbie-question in Linux : the Editor is here, installed... how can I launch it ?
Should I type in something in the console, should I doubleclick something, if yes what...

Thanks a lot again for any further help ! :-)

Installation

Good luck ;-)

I have done that, but the effect was to unpack and install the editor, not to launch it... :-(

I cannot try under linux today (don't have any installation with gui available), but when I invoke

Code: Select all

java -jar jenv.jar
the editor starts up for me in Windows.

Do you have a gui running?

Tomorrow I can try under Linux.

I use Mandrake 9.1 with KDE... I have tried to type in what you wrote in a konsole, but it didn't work... :-(

But I have contacted Ralf, and he replied me he will give me further instruction tommorrow : I can let you know tommorrow when I get his information if you want

P.S. : thanks again for trying to help me !

to get in touch with Purebaic and linux it is absolutly necessarily to learn the fundamentals of linux.linux is not windows.
I made the same mistake(s) a year ago.
things like 'root', rights and 'su' are fundamentals to handle linux .
there are several coding-editors available, you just have to configure then.
it is nice how to start and kill programm, copy files and change directorys.
A good start is always mc (Midnightcommander) or KDE's Krusader to do things easier as fingercrossing in the console.I prefer those filecommanders, coz they can copy, edit and start Programms .all you need to develope with purebasic.
