I have an ancient file created using PageMaker 6.5.

Is there a way of converting it to PDF or Word/Writer?

If you actually have PageMaker 6.5 it's simple, just install a print driver that outputs pdf (there are lots available on the net) then print from PageMaker to that printer. If you don't have the program anymore I don't know what you could try other than asking the question on Google. I'll be very surprised if you aren't able to find a solution.
