problem installing apple update HT1222

anybody else experience problems installing said update on OS X El Capitan?
when Appstore finishes downloading and I click on restart it seems to restart but instead of the update progress screen all I get is a blank screen with a mouse pointer and no amount of waiting helps.
tried for at least 4 times, am giving up on this.
