Hi,

I'm looking for a very fast and pure OS,
and I found reactos.
http://www.reactos.com/nl
this looks very interesting, so i want to test it.

So, my next question,
is it possible to use it with Purebasic ??

greetings,
marc

Hi Marc,

Long time I do not had a look at ReactOS, so I test this mornning.
- Install ReactOS on a VM (Virtualbox 5): OK ~ 5 minutes (excellent)
- Work fine and fast (!)
- Download Firefox via application-manager: OK
- Connect to Internet and PureBasic website: OK
- Downloading demo version of PB 5.41 LTS x86: OK
- Launch it: OK (Happy!)
- Do a little prog ( Debug "Hello World!")
- Press F5
- Compilation in progress... (wait, wait, wait)
- System hang :( (not only PB IDE, all the OS ReactOS)
- No task manager access, so I send "Alt+Ctrl+Del" via menu of the VM: no effect :|

My host system: i3-3220 CPU @ 3.30GHz - 16Go - Windows 10 x64 (any other VM work fine)

Forget about ReactOS. It's a nice showcase and all, but it can't be used for anything else, really.

Up to PB 5.31, AFAIR, some simple compiled programs worked OK on it. After introducing GDI (or perhaps something else in 5.4x), it doesn't work any more for me.

Hi bbanelli,

Did PB5.31 was working well on reactos ?
I just need to control my wood work machine.

Hi Marc56us,

thanks for testing it, maybe PB5.31 will work ?

thanks,
marc,

I like playing with ReactOS, because it reminds me of how good Windows used to be (an OS that did what the user wanted, instead of the other way round).

@bbanelli says right, ReactOS is nice project but it is still so unstable and uncompleted so cannot be used except to experiments.
There is no nice windows-compatible alternatives, all you can use as pure OS is Linux+Wine or optimized custom build of Windows XP, though XP has serious compatibility problems with newer windows due to MS marketing policy

I din't tried PB on ReactOS also, but guess at least part of it can be usable, as they already rewrited huge part of windows XP system libraries.
