Because PowerBasic does not offer anythin for x64, i have opened a PureBasic x64 Corner in Jose's Forum.
If you have contributions, that can help people coming from PowerBasic to easier get into PureBasic,
you can post it there.

Those contributions can also be posted here on this forum. ;-)
For instance, Amilcar Matos has already contributed a helpful reference aid.

Re your remark in Jose's Forum, Gnozal did not run away from PB Theo. Everything he was doing (for Total Commander as well as PB, his website, fb etc) suddenly stopped. So, unfortunately probable that something happened to him.

He was around for so long time, does nobody have any contact data from him, so he can be contacted?

Apparently TronDoc passed away Nov 23, 2005....Bad things happen to good people. :(

I'm hoping the best for Gnozal.

This can be true in some cases, but its not a genereal rule :-).

There are so many discontinued projects floating around here.
How comes that these people should all "die just away"?

Normally if you get sick, you can say a word. I know how it was at PowerBasic long years ago.
Also people started running away, later several of them were found here at PureBasic.
Paul Dwyer, Bob Houle just few ... as example.

I do not like the idea to assume that people who possibly just change their interest, to get declared "dead".
Instead i wonder that nobody here ever had an address or Phone number from Gnozal. He was so popular here.
Besides that there were more. I have seen several discontinued Projects, Pre-Parsers, IDEs, OOP aproaches etc.

If they are all dead, there must be some "Killer" running around dedicated just to kill PureBasic Users :-).
In this case we need to put a warning onto the PureBasic package :-). As well as on the PowerBasic Package.

But i can see the same effect on many places.
At POV-Ray, possibly at Yaffaray, at Luxrender ... all these programmes had their time when they were "Modern", and when the public interested lowered, there is a species of people who loose interest and "run away".

I can tell you that Jose, the most accepted contributor of "Jose's Forum", and one of the best COM-Programmers world wide, is now writing a book on "French actors and films" ... he just looks into the Forum from time to time. If we would not have the forum, maybe he would not be around.
I only know it because we are in closer contact (and yes he sent me some chapter of his book).
This sort of people who are geniuouse programmers is a special type and its hard to predict what they do next.
We have no idea what they do if their interest changes.

Ah now how much is Jose paying you to say he is one of the best COM programmers in the world? 8) hehe. A grandiose statement indeed!

(I am sure he is a great programmer btw. His reputation is I'm sure well deserved.)

Now you see, take our fangles for example; he is famed as a world class sheep sha... whoops, I mean sheep shearer, but you'll never hear him blowing his own trumpet about it. Well, not whilst he can get flossie to blow it that is!

Must admit that I still think about Dare2. A real gentleman who suddenly disappeared for good it seems. A sad loss.

I seem to recall Gnozal stating that he was just giving it up. Whether that was PB or coding in general I cannot remember.

Just my personal opinion. He did alone translate all the PB include files from VS,
several hundred of Megabytes nearly without any Bugs in his cellar.
Then he wrote two Editors for PB, all of them nearly bug free in the first run.
Doing so he helped many people with advice.

I don't know anybody beeing able to do so. I would need 12 or more people to make the same amount of work, and it would not be so bug free.

Just like i believe that Jamie is the best artist for POV-Ray worldwide until you show me a better.

PS: Currently i have no idea who the best PureBasic programmer is, but if i stay around for a while, i will find that out :-)

The best Purebasic programmer. Ah now that is easy... Fred! :)

Anyone who can code even a small program is a skilled coder inmo. After that is needed knowledge, experience, and perseverance. The all important ingredients!

And money to pay someone else to do the difficult stuff of course!

Are you sure?
I have never seen a PureBasic program from Fred other then some Demos included with the Package.
And PureBasic itself ... isn't it written in C something?

Just that he knows "any bit in PureBasic" because he made it himself, does not necessarily mean that he is the best PureBasic programmer.
For this you need a talent that is special to very few people.
Maybe its genetic .. you can't buy this in a shop or learn it on a school.

I don't know any programs from Gnozal, but he would be an possible adept for this.
I will see.

If you see programs about things that you would not try yourself, because its possibly too difficult,
that are very clear structured and commented, and you still do not understand a thing ...
while they work and they are bug free nearly from the first version. You have an adpet for this.

Secondly a very high productivity is often seen from such people.
Like Leonardo da Vinci at his time. He was very productive.

Must say taht they seem often seem to come from Spain :-) like Jamie and Jose.
Gnozal sounds like Spain also ...

Just a note: to judge is someone is great or not at something, you have to be near his level, else is just a worthless opinion because you don't have the tools to answer the question.
