After upgrading to Windows 10, I had the problem that Folders opened so slowly.
Also thumbnails in picture folders did not more seem to appear.
So i looked around what could it be?
Reading in teh Internet i got to the point that the Windows 10 Indexing Service is different from the one in Windows 7.
Its very hot on all Texts and PDF-Files and indexes them all the time.
On my computer this was the reason for the problem.
After switching the "useless" Indexing-service" off (DISABLED) all things with the explorer got a lot faster.
And i personally never needed this service.

That's a good tip - especially on my under-powered laptop.

See, this is why I hate Microsoft. I do not want, nor have any need, for my files to be indexed at all. The fact that we have to disable it is an atrocious invasion of our privacy.

For years on all my computers I replace Windows Search by the excellent freeware:
Everything Search Engine (486 ko!)

It only indexes filename, date, size, not keywords or content, but is very very very fast
Regular expression search is available.
Very usefull

Then simply turn it off. I don't find indexing capabilities offensive in any way.
I'll certainly use it on Windows 10 too.
You just turn on/off and/or tweak the service to your heart's desire.

The fact that we have to disable it is an atrocious invasion of our privacy.

Could you please point out 'the atrocity' in a feature which has been around for ages?

The main problem here is, that a 'concerned' user has to spend some quality time to find all
the ways to turn 'features' on and off. The average user - installing an Operating System - simply don't
care about such things.

When entertainment no longer runs smoothly or the OS runs like crap due to some extremely bad
'lets install some (malware) without reading the fineprint from the net' choices - they simply give up and re-install the OS again.

They just want things up and running. The average person's main interest is pictures,
entertainment, some work related software (highly unlikely) and the ever present 'pervasive/perversive'
connectivity to social medias.

To be honest: The OS we used for the last 20 years is still like 1985. It's complicated, and preferences settings get more complicated with each new version.
Especially with Windows' separated systems. 'Metro GUI' ('Modern UI') and 'Classic GUI' still are separated and have separated preferences settings.
Installers etc. are just annoying and a waste of time.
AppStores and automatic Installers/Updaters are the right direction for all computing platforms.

Machines should not consume people's time, they should make things easier for us humans - if possible even for below-average-people!

Since Windows 2000 i see no real development in Microsoft OS.
Things developed against the user in any possible way.

1. It must be "online" - so possibly THEY can access it.
2. Its slower even if Hardware gets much faster
3. Its using more space and more RAM - even though the windows 10 colour scheme (Its 2-color) looks worse then Windows 1.0
Its made with "silly users" in mind. People who live in teh US Bronx without education.

For Developers any version of windows since Windows 2000 was an step back then the version before.

About the indexing service. Under Windows 7 i did not have had this problem.
It started with my upgrade to Windows 10 to make the system unusable.

So there are definitely changes since windows 7 at this place.

Some people in the internet who have taken a closer look said that this service is very hot on all stuff that could be of potential interest for the US secret services. So they say that this service generates very large tables with Keywords from all your documents, texts and PDF Files.
Of course making it easy for an attacker to find whatever he is looking for on your computer.

Also the Windows 10 licence agreements are like this ... they are just allowed to get anything from your computer that they want, under some very open defined conditions. Windows 10 was not made for the users in mind.

It does not have anything thats really a step forward. People only use it because it has all the most actual drivers for the hardware they need to use.

I'm really not quite 'hip' on that idea... But in the name of 'profit' - it is the future trend. Everything online.

Really?? Personally I've seen major improvements during the years on all OS fronts - and just as many
security risks and bugs.

We could probably start a lengthy debate and we're all different. (fortunately).
I won't initiate any further reasoning or debate, though...
It's become one of those topics which never ends.

I completely agree with Danilo.
While this is another point, MS changes the "Start Menu" each time.
Also the "Preferences". So what is that good for?

Why do car-manufacturers not put the steereing wheel on other places any time they make a new car?
Because they know "people want to use things like they are used to".

Microsoft tries to bring new (more stupid) ideas with each new version.
Windows 10 is the top of stupidity as i see it.
Especially the graphics, which is in fact "monochrome" and this on computers that are able to render 32 bit colours.
Windows 3.11 had better Icons.

Whats behind? Its the idea that maximum stupid people can easier remember simple "Line Drawings".

On the other side they make it more complicated - without any need.

Each time you get a new windows, you have to new find out "Where is what".
How do i get to the preferences?
Where can i uninstall things?

This way the computer is not a Tool "to go from A to B", but a system to learn the same things - we already knew each time from new.
A normal person who just wants to use a computer and not learn each time "where is what" does not like this behavior.
Especially as there is no real reason behind.

The Start-Menu was Ok - and anybody knew how to use it. It must not be changeds with any version.
The same applies to MS Office and this useless Ribbon stuff.
Where you have to visit a school first before you find what you need.
