Not suprising!

Microsoft has a generous upgrade philosophy.
For business all the things run for years. (btw even VB6 on Win10;-)

If You build a product and someone complains about an error:
"Hey, something is wrong!"
"What version? Actual version 10?"
"No 7; I don't want to update because I am lazy..."

O.k. big business; and even PB takes care about errors in older versions.

But at the end; having a strategy to keep things upgraded is not worst.

I changed from 98 to XP and it was great; so was the change from XP to 7; then 7 to 8 -> faster OS.
And finally Win10; even better! I have a Sony Vaio P -> it runs Win10!

I remember a colleague who had no driver for his 8 year old scanner for Win8.
We should define a salary/hour for ourselves practicing and staying with old devices or keep them running; I bet it costs more than to buy simply a new one...

My only hope is that Microsoft takes it serious that Windows 10 is the last OS version. After that "only" patches/upgrades.

They make many things wrong; but the OS runs great!

seeing as they gave it away for free though maybe it makes sense it's losing momentum already due to the rapid initial uptake?

You forgot to mention Vista HanPBF

The issues with 10 are these:

1) MS has forgotten that your PC belongs to you and you alone decide what it can and can't do.
2) MS has got too big and it's actions have led to distrust. So, once they have you on 10, will updates be free or will they charge you over and over and over again for nothing.......

Your PC still belongs to you, and Windows (including data created with and managed by Windows) belongs to MS.

Even if they call Windows 10 "the last", it's just a marketing term. They could release an update that changes everything (for example, let's say they bring Aero back and remove all the privacy concerns). It's still "Windows 10" by name, but in reality it's really Windows 11.

No matter what, some things don't change.
Windows® still runs 90% of PC desktops.
