God damn, there are many versions of cracked PureBasic on the Net!

Hang them all who use this great developing language and does not support it!

Fred, time to include some new protection and checks in the new updates!

BUID, while it courses some problems from time to time, does filter these unwanted pirates out, at the very least it provents them from updating to the lastest version just by downloading it.

I'm wondering why people are doing it, PureBasic is not expensive at all.
$60 bucks - if somebody doesn't have money, how can they pay the phone bill
If I start saving $10 a month I can buy PureBasic 6 month later - and all updates are free
I don't get it

I think people that pirate PureBasic don't understand that the most important thing is that it costs Fred (and the rest of the team) time and $$$ to develop and refine PureBasic. $60.00 is cheap (afordable) and helps keep a good product going.

What i can't understand is why NOBODY does nothing against sites that distributes cracks.

Many people/governments/organizations talk about spam and i think that crack is more censurable than spam.

If i go to the supermarket and stole something i go directly to jail, but if i go to the internet and stole someones else work and stole his software... nobody does nothing. Even search engines do not block crack sites...

If you send spam you could have your site off in a few hours sometimes and out of some search enignes, if you distribute cracks nobody does nothing.

Its crazy for me.

I agree. Fred, perhaps instead of publishing the update files on your site
you should only make them available to registered users via a secret URL.

Even better... each registered user would receive an update file personally from Fred (email).

That would force us to keep him posted of our present location. The update file would include an encrypted registration number in one of the DLL's so that he could find out who was causing the 'leak'.

I only hope it will not be as complicated as M$ Win XP protection ; one reason I am still with Win98SE !
And I fear -any- protection can be cracked ...

Just avoid dongles and cd-dependent schemes. These mean nothing to crackers and only end up inconveniencing the innocent fully paid-up coders. They also cost the product developer, pushing up the product's price, and ironically even people who have paid for a product often end up using a cracked version.

blitz has also been leaked on warez sites. i meailed mark about 4 weaks ago.....

I emailed Mark the other day about the matter, we get lots of people coming into #blitzbasic on irc.blitzed.org want the updates to the latest version of blitz, (they get banned outright) as he said and maybe Fred might feel the same way, there is very little he or Mark can do about it, they both are after all just only 1 person. But as he said;

"Fortunately, there are enough honest people around to make the whole exercise worthwhile! So I try not to stress about it too much..."

Lets hope there are enough honest people in PB as well.

I don't like cracks & or warez, but have $0 funds and an exchange rate that would suck Bill Gates dry in less than a week,

60.00 EUR - Euro = 122.056 NZD New Zealand Dollars, and that doesn't include the bank changes for crediting the account overseas, which could be anything from $10-$50, which also doesn't include postage

To put that about into prospective $122 will pay for rent for a home for a week, or buy food for a week.

Living in this country doesn't lean itself to being 100% legit all the time, and quite frankly I don't think there is a person here that hasn't at some point in his life owned software that wasn't legitamate, and if there is well he/she must be rich or have rich parents.

I think it's more a question of social economic background, if you come from a rich background then your more likely to buy it, if your on the otherside of the coin then putting food on the table is more important than buying software, however both economic groups can aford to buy/pay off/hp a computer, for example;

Adobe Photoshop, $500NZD (or there abouts) a rich person won't think of it as much, it soild, a poor person will have a total heartack and feel like it's a rip off.

Adobe Photoshop, $10NZD, the poor person will buy it a rich person will think it has no value because it's cheap

The point?, the people that run these companyies are rich and don't see that $500 is too higher price, there by adding to there own problem of copying software.

I thought each of us got our own unique .dat file
that PB checks each time it starts up so it knows
that it's a legal copy? How did they crack that;
or are they just passing the .dat file around??

not nessary, crack the the check in the first place, or as you say pass the .dat.

there is no protection that is 100% safe... thats it...

sure a buid helps maybe, but not much at all... every shit gets cracked today, and i really wouldnt know how to avoid this...
