Thanks, very nice animations, especially the first one. My wife restores historical sewing machines and this is really interesting. I love the smart and robust design, great engineering. Just to look at them use to inspire me a lot.

The mechanics of a sewing machine is something that I've long wondered about.

I was looking at Craigslist ads last month for a used machine for my kids to use for cosplay support,
and want the seller to give a sewing machine setup and sewing lesson as a part of the transaction.

My mother in law is a veteran pro, and currently does industrial sewing for a company who contracts government clothing in Europe and some of Russia.
Me and the wife have a small machine we fix stuff with. It doesn't do thick stuff. I've fixed them before. The old ones are a lot easier to fix.
Clothing templates are like looking at topology worksheets..
It's almost pointless to learn this stuff, because decent materials are a nightmare to source..
