Waiting about 4 hours before asking again is far too long.
Better ask e.g. at 30 minute intervals.

AFAIK the wireless hardware should be automatically detected by the OS.
If it is not detected, and you were able to ID the problem, then it would be difficult to update that 3.3 year old version of UBUNTU.

Now years later, whenever I visit ask UBUNTU dot com, there are still wireless problems, but not as many.
My recommendation, as always, is to get wired.
But if you're like the majority, then you don't share my health concerns about non-ionizing radiation exposure.
(Concerns #4 & #5 have special applicability for active PureBasic programmers, and despite common lore, the tin-foil hats are not that effective. :P
Ten years ago I used to warn my male students about wearing those devices on their belts and against keeping it in their pants pockets to avoid damage to future offspring, which usually got their attention. It's good to see that important warning message being promoted more nowadays #6 & #7.)

If you stay wireless, then I'd advise trying out a newer version of a UBUNTU live CD which is better supported and has better wireless drivers.
