Update:
After a few weeks of serious work and with the first class help of srod on some questions, I am able to say that the Arctic Reports engine is an amazing reporting system.
I can do everything I need easily and quickly.
It is very flexible system, accepts countless parameters, can design on the fly etc.
I think that is no other tool with the same quality in this price.
srod must update it and continue to improve it!
It's amazing tool.
Regards.

Hello.
I need a report designer for a small business application that I have design.
Although I am a licensed user of the Arctic Reports, I had not used before.
Now, i need to use it, but I saw that srod seems not to give too much attention on its development and because of his limited time he is not be able to solve some issues quickly.
Can anyone suggest something light (like the Arctic Reports), preferably free or low cost.
The report generator must not need administrator rights to install it or registration (via regsvr32).
It should read SQLite databases directly without having any odbc driver and certainly the print out could be called through the program code with several parameters.
Now implement the prints html code and use the webgadget to display, but because i have to schedule multiple reports, this solution is painful.
Any suggestion is welcome.
Thanks in advance.

Thanos.

Hi,

the issue you reported is a strange one - my gut feeling is that you may be doing something wrong (though I could of course be wrong on that score). I certainly cannot reproduce the problem and I have tried with several versions of PB - including 5.31.

Send me the report file and, if possible, the SQLite database and I will take a look over the weekend.

Stephen.

Though not a 'Visual Designer', you might give "ddoc Print and Preview" a try.
Well worth the $25 spent and DoubleDutch made it even a better deal.
(There is an evaluation version available)

see: http://www.purebasic.fr/english/viewtop ... 01#p301001

Current web page is still valid: http://www.greatwebdivide.com/software.htm

PS - I'm using on Win 8.1 with no problems

Received thanks.

I just ran it with PB 5.31x86 and it was absolutely fine. I cannot reproduce the problem at all.

Which version of Windows are you running?

@srod
I tested it at Windows 7 and Windows 8 in both 32 and 64bits and i faced the same problem when i try to run report\InvalidateReport() statement.
Purebasic compilers 5.31x86 and 5.24x86 LTS

I have sent you the files I used to run your little program - including the nxReport dll. Worth ruling out a corrupted library file on your end.

If this fails then can you try running one of the demo programs. Use the "ChildSubreportsWithGroups" demo programs. You will of course need to add the nxReport header file and .lib and .dll files to the folder.

Run the "Demo_CreateSaveReport.pb" program first to create the report file. Then, if all is well, run the "Demo_LoadPreviewReport.pb" program. If all runs fine then stick a report\InvalidateReport() call in there. Let us see is this then crashes out?

If not then there is something peculiar to your report. Without experiencing the crash here though it is going to be difficult to figure out what is going on?

@blueb
I looked at it.
From a cursory glance, it is fast but I think he has some issues with the appearance. Each time you run a report needs resize its window just to display the contents.
Interestingly, but compared to the Arctic Report it looks like ice age :D
Before many years I had written a similar ocx for use by Visual Basic 6 using its PictureBox control.

If it wasn't going to be a simple fix then it was going to be one horrendous problem to solve! :)

Any idea what the problem was?

I had 2 problems:
1. A corrupted dll
2. An older version of nxReport_HeaderFile.pbi
Now everything is running smoothly!
As i wrote to my email the Arctic Reports suite is really amazing. I checked some other solutions (in the same level), but they seem like ice age in comparison to Arctic Reports.
Thank you for your support.
My best regards.
