Just curious ... is there anyone else using such a resolution as default? Any iphone user has more as standard today. The last time I used a resolution below 1024x768 was in 1984 (30 years ago) ... for compatibilty I made games in 1024x768 for many years. Until I got used to a second monitor ... seeing how crappy it looks on the second one when fullscreen resolution is not desktop resolution.
At present I have 2x1920x1080 on both machines ... how can you use 800x600 as default? I have always 5 - 8 windows open to handle all stuff coming in and while developing ...

maybe that's why I make so slow progress sometimes.
As I said - I am really curious - no joke - no insult - just baffled ... I haven't seen a gamer since ages playing 3D Games on lower resolutions than 1600x1200, 1920x1080, etc. ...
And it looks to me you are developing in 800x600?
Question: What is best to develop for ... besides letting the user select his prefered resolution anyway?

Hi Thade
i was using 640 X 480 just a few months ago, recently i have upgraded to 800 X 600 after buying 22" Led monitor. in windows 7 it is surely ugly, but in windows xp (my every day system) are much more better i don't know why.
the reason is that the size of everything are small in higher resolutions, i know i can increase the fonts size but still i'm not happy with the results. part of the reason is my degraded vision with years ,my age is 60 yo ,and the bigger dots i find better, i read ebooks all the day in big size fonts. i don't develop games or software. but the software developer of course should consider what his customers use.
i think i know a few people still using 640 X 480 in this forum. you can know when they use windows sizes 640 x 480

For windows I go by Microsoft's resolution requirements for most of my applications.
If I plan on supporting windows XP I make sure my application supports a minimum of 800 x 600 and if I for some reason only support 8 then I jump up to a 1024 x 768 minimum.

I'd say that depends on what you're developing. For example a modeling software usually has much lower requirements then what a game has.

So I am a bit older than you, applePi

and I use 2 27" monitors because its better for the eyes ...
I see your target audience. XP seems to be sort of a religion. 2000 years to go (without support)
