Looks like the top-of-the-art 3D engines are now in the price range for indies, startups, small companies.

I always thought the CRYENGINE looked impressive. If only Crytek spent a little more time on a longer story mode for Crysis 3.
It had some amazing graphics for the PC version, but only 5 or so hours of gameplay for story mode.
