My question is really offtopic and absolutely not related to programming, but I'm too lazy to search for a general chit-chat forum, register there, etc.
So - in Russian and Eastern European culture there is a prase "пацан". It means a "tough guy", which is (usually) related to criminal subculture, using criminal slang, wearing sportswear. He never calls police, whatever happens(if he dares to do it, he is considered as a tresspasser and he breaches his "honour codex"). He usually makes living by doing some kind of illegal activity, like smuggling something, stealing cars, etc. He likes driving sports cars, usually has a baseball bat, a slut girlfriend and a massive gold chain on his neck. On the other hand - selling or using drugs is an absoute NOT for him. He always keeps his word for his friends(gang). So - is there some English phrase for such kind of person? Eastern and Western mindsets are notably different, but I still suspect there still should be some kind of equivalent for it. If you have a spare minute, please name it (Including your country, UK, USA, AU or whatever English speaking place)

Sorry ostapas, your description is very good, but, in the UK, there are all sorts of sub categories and people of different groups have different names for the type of person you describe. There is probably a Wiki on the subject if you search.

'thug' or 'hood' are probably the closest to your description. I haven't time for a more in-depth discussion, I have to see if my slut girlfriend is finished polishing my gold chain. I hope so, me and my bat have some business downtown...

You are describing a criminal element. In parts of America they are sometimes called "wiseguy" or "made men". Largely untouchable because of their affiliation with crime gangs. Your manner expresses disdain and possibly retribution. But, unless you remain anonymous, you cannot avoid escalation. Criminals are in their profession for the very reason they have nothing to lose and nowhere else to go but lower. You must avoid sharing their journey.

Theres no equivalent in Autralia. If someone like that is in Australia we call them "Russian thug" The closest in Australia is just a "crim" but they usually wouldnt wear sports clothes and gold chains and they probably would always be into drugs.

I don't think Russia has spoiled kids singing rap and having parking lot fights in their parents cars.. More like arms smugglers and people who snuff politicians and people who cut them off in broad daylight in front of a FSB building..

On a related note: Did anyone see the fake gangster who made half of Euro-Asia vote and cause the Olympics to be in Russia? Probably some kid who lived with his parents.. Where are the real "thugs"?

A smooth-talking, womanising, violent, thieving, sportswear and jewellery-donning criminal with a gangster code-of-honour, who doesn't do drugs.

That's probably the shortest English phrase to describe what you described. Anything less would be inaccurate.

What you describe could only be described here in Australia as "Politicians" with the very most corrupted 1's being the Australian & N.S.W. Labour parties......
