Jeopardy and Firefox

Ok, so tonight on Jeopardy, the Jeopardy final question was something like... "What applications name is actually a red panda?" The answer was "Firefox". My question is, why does the icon look like a red fox and not a red panda? I never would have guessed.

Perhaps it's because that's what a red panda looks like. Not to be confused with the red coloured Giant Panda that roams the plains of Outer Mongolia. Often seen in vast herds in the company of unicorns and gryphons.
Although I would have said a red panda looks more like a raccoon than a fox.

Because Jeopardy is wrong. The Firefox logo
is a red fox:

Would've thought that was obvious. Someone at Jeopardy has no idea.

Yes, Jeopardy was correct, could it be any other way?
Although the application's icon is a fox, apparently the name Firefox is used to describe a red panda.
IMO that was too much of a trick question, I'd guess that 0.1% of people know that trivia.

It was a trick question, anyway. They asked
what
name is a red panda, not what
logo.

Yeah I researched it myself too. I just find it odd that the icon is not a red panda. Definitely a trick question.

It would not be a stretch of the imagination to call the actual icon a red panda. Have you seen the photos of those animals? They look a lot like a bushy red fox.

They look different to me. The red panda has a striped tail, shorter snout, different coloring, ect... but I guess to some it may look similar.

There is a small zoo in Mogo, a small town about 200kM south of Sydney, Australia.
Amongst the interesting animals, there are Red Pandas.
I wouldn't want my programs to be associated with a critter that goes to sleep most of the time...
