Hi folks, I'm back in the civilized world again!

We left civilization in July of 2012 and lived in our RV with solar power and no phone or internet. I was able to check the forums occasionally when we travelled to a lodge or to Fort Nelson for groceries (150 km over mountain roads) but connections were frustratingly slow and I only got connected once every few days or weeks. But now we've taken over management of a campground in Kelowna, BC and have a fulltime internet connection with speeds +- 2000 kbps. I dl'd Beta 17 in 20 seconds!

Anyways, it's great to be a regular forum contributor again! See you around the boards :D

does a camping ground in Kelowna, BC really count as civilization or is it just the internet connection?
Nice to see you back!

If you're a paying customer the cost varies from $16 per night to $55 per night depending upon how many services are provided. If no water, sewer, electricity or wifi is provided, it's usually under $20. The more services, the higher the price. It always mystifies me that with all the thousands of square miles of rugged country in BC where you can camp for free and get no services, people are willing to pay $20 for what amounts to the same thing. The only real difference I can see is that if you pay the fee you get to camp next to somebody who will complain about the noise your generator is making.

I used to go camping with my siblings and parents years ago.
We used to go for 2 or 3 weeks max, so not very long, but all
we had was a gas bottle for an oven, water jugs, and batteries.

No internet, wifi, electricity, running water; nothing. Washed in
the beach or river (we swam a lot) but did use the toilets in the
campground. Nothing like the sound of rain on your tent at night.

They were some of the best times of my life. :)

I also do vacation without internet access and without notebook. That's what vacation is for, isn't it? Vacation is for relaxation.

Internet only if really required for the trip (changing or booking a flight or emergency situations),
by using mobile phone internet (if available in the area ), or by using an internet cafe (if available in the area ).

Very good time, every year. I also do like minimalistic living, like camping in a tent in Australia's outback for 2 weeks,
or enjoying village life in Thailand, distant from Internet, Computers, and "modern civilization".

Happy to see you again ! Did you found what you were looking for ?

I've spent 20 days camping this year to visit my country, and going in Spain, far away from computers. There's well organised camps all around Europe, starting at 5€ per night (more usually 12€). It was nice, and it's as harder to come back to reality.
