Saved by the whiskey

I have read an article in which a man in New-Zealand has been saved by a Whiskey Johnie Walker Black Label in a hospital.
The reason: he drank a smuggling alcohol. This contained methanol. Methanol is metabolized in our body and the product created attacks first the optical nerves before killing the brain.
Result: The man was loosing his eyes and ran to hospital.
In the hospital, only one solution: the whiskey!
Whiskey contains ethanol in good quantities, what it can modify metabolism of methanol in the body and prevent to become blind or to die.
Source (french, I did not find english equivalent)
(Caution: alcohol is dangerous, etc... Do not drink alone, etc... 5 fruits 5 vegetables per day, etc... If you want to stop, call a doctor, etc...)
