I don't like the reliance on DirectX 7, that is mandating that someone go to Microsoft's DirectX web site and download a 30 meg. file, many are still on 56K dialup connections. If I were writing a video game then this would be exceptable but my current project is an application.

Does PureBasic allow displaying images and text and checking for keyboard and mouse input without using DirectX 7 or greater? All of the example programs in the downloadable demo that displayed .jpg or .bmp images relied on DirectX 7, also the mouse example of moving the purebasic logo bitmap around the screen.

No problem about it. Don't use any libraries listed under 'Game 2D Libraries' and 'Game 3D Libraries'.

Thank you for your quick response Fred. That's a beautiful solution and now I see that the libraries are categorized in a logical order beyond that of just functionality. I just purchased PureBasic. Thanks again.
