I've just noticed the PowerBasic web site is gone. Is Powerbasic no longer in business?

More likely they just got hit by an angry banned user.

Could be due to that?

Wow, very sad.
The entire product and website should NOT go down though.
There is mention of continued support...http://cwsof.com/blog/?p=503

Karma finally got Bob. Sad, but true.

I did not know Bob passed away.

Anyway, according to the blog from the link posted above:

"Some people have been over worrying about PowerBasics web site being down and it appears that they just were having some technical problems and are moving the web site to a new server."

That entry was December 9, 2012. Discovered it down yesterday when I pulled up some old code and had a reference to a PowerBasic forum link in the code for a way someone did something that I liked at the time which I was going to convert to PureBasic, so was just checking.

now its site off, thats shame, when the people think it was off before a week i was able to access it using anonymouse.org/ so it seems they was restricting access to some places or countries because of the limited bandwidth available, but now anonymouse.org are also can't access the site. this is surely not what Mr Zale wants to his product.

There's not much he's going to be able to do about it.

Bit of a random nonsense post, I'm not really trying to start anything here, just sharing what I think is, ostensibly, a good read if you have an hour or two to kill and want some light entertainment.

I kept asking myself why PowerBasic sounded familiar (I'm only 30 and already have brain fog, ugh...) and why I had this bad image of the company / its recently deceased creator. So I asked my good buddy Google to help me out, and what I got back was actually pretty interesting.

Banned from the PowerBASIC Forum

This starts the USENET archive at page 1, although I don't know how interesting it starts off as. I came in at the middle, I think, around page 5, 6 or 7? Something about some guy named Olav refusing to give out his real phone number to PB Inc.. The situation after that one, all things considered, did not put PB Inc. in a very good light IMHO.. I am actually still reading the posts on this particular "incident", which involves a user claiming they were banned over his statement about the production of PB Linux that never appeared, in response to a question about it. PB Inc's response just seems to get worse and worse over time, but I have no idea how it will end -- I have to go finish it, its like reading a trashy romance novel!

I honestly found it perplexing awesome and slightly aghasting at the same time. I don't think I would ever have used the product after reading such a thread, and I certainly don't intend to now.
But there are some quite hilarious bits sprinkled throughout.

Power Basic is an awesome product that has a large corporate customer base and excellent product support. I've been using it for many years, but unfortunately it's Windows only. That's why I made the move to Pure Basic.

If you believe the ravings of a few trolls then you would be doing yourself a disservice.

One of the problems with Zale's formula, however, is that in some industries if a competitor finds out "you use BASIC" (said with a sneer), then they can use that to market against you. And since many customers are ignorant enough to think "basic is bad" (because they do not understand development tools) that kind of marketing can seriously can hurt you. That was one of the reasons I went with PureBasic. And the people seem more friendly here; nobody slams Fred like they did Zale.
