I've just stumbled upon this: http://laughton.com/basic/

It seems to offer a really good degree of functionality and you can create *.apk files too.

Interesting.

The editor/interpreter only runs on an android device though. It would be murder trying to code on my tablet! :)

I've got ICS in a VirtualBox on my laptop. It can be a bit flakey though, sometimes it freezes or reboots for no reason (just the virtual machine not my laptop) and I can't get sound to work no matter what settings I choose but I can make it fullscreen and use my keybord for input.

Works good on my netbook, that has an old Android v1.06 installed in its own boot partition, all of the code examples seem to run ok. :D
Not sure if I will be able to create the apk files this way yet, or it has to be done through the SDK. :|

One of the guys in their forum is offering a packaging service for just EUR 2 to save you the hassle.

As an *.apk is just a zip archive once you've had one done you could probably just use it as a template.

Not sure if you are talking about the rfo-basic app builder.zip from the forum, or you send in the files and he send back the apk file :?:, I will probably install the SDK to check it out anyhow, thanks for the info though. :)

Full of advertisments, no ARM emulation (so no native programming .. only if your target system is x86) and destroys any other virtualbox installation: http://youwave.com/forum/index.php?topic=120.0

"I want to inform that I'm offering a service for creating your own APK files from
your BASIC! programs. So if you want to share your program with friends, co-workers,
G-market and they don't like to manage and install BASIC!.apk, this announce is for you.

Drop me a private message and I will reply as soon as possible (my time: GMT +1).
The price for the service is 2$ for any release, that
you will pay after you receive the APK file in your mail box. "

I thought it was EUR 2 but it looks like it's USD 2 which is even cheaper.

Not sure if I could be bothered to do it myself, seems to be a very complicated process, this from the docs:

Appendix D – Building a Standalone Application
...
Setting Up the Development Environment
The complete Android development environment requires the downloading and installation of Java, Eclipse and the Android SDKs. A complete set of instructions for doing this can be found on the Android Developer's Web site at:
http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html.

Perhaps that's why that dude is offering the service to create the apk, I am only playing with this for the time being, and if I write a killer Android App, it might be the best way to go, just think if he/she gets 1,000,000 orders it is a worthwhile venture indeed. :)
