This is an interesting concept and seems very light on resources.

Seems like it has a long ways to go.. There are not very many configurable options at all, you can't even setup how it acts when it detects a threat (i.e delete it automatically, quarantine it, try to clean it, or prompt you for an action, etc)

Missing lots of the standard features so far, even for Free A/V. But interesting concept still.

Also I find it ironic, that on the Panda blog, the blogger talks down about other companies that try to sneak stuff onto your PC during install by automatically checking boxes, etc..

Well If I hadn't clicked the "options" button when the installer was running and brought up a totally different screen I would have wound up installing the Panda Toolbar........

I have used the desktop version of Panda. In their early days, it was very good. Now, it 'takes over' your machine, pops-up adverts for Panda products and is basically too annoying to use in my opinion. It's a bit of a trend in the industry - the AV is so important, it does not matter that you can't use your PC any more, so long as it is 'safe' I think the ultimate AV will simply shut the PC down and prevent it from ever running again........

I'm using MS Essentials, it is indeed the least annoying of all the AV I have used. Though it never top-scores in the magazine test charts, it is undoubtedly a 'good all-rounder'. I also use Advanced System Care, to see if it can find anything that MS may have missed (never has thus far), and to help clean-up the drives/registry. How long it will be before Microsoft realise they have got a tool to use for a huge desktop marketing campaign, only time will tell. Avira 2012 also seems to be pretty unobtrusive, my wife has that running on a very (very very) old laptop.

Oh, they're probably not allowed to for monopoly reasons. I bet they aren't even allowed to bundle it with their newest OS because then other vendors would be in disadvantage, as it was for Windows Media Player or Internet Explorer. This is how the state encourages malware...

For me, it is the most annoying. I have tried it a couple of times over the years, but it always has the same problem for me. It can never finish a complete scan of all the files on a drive and MS Essentials crashes every time I try a complete scan of all files.


Personally, I use ClamWin. Very light on resources and it has served me well.

Panda Cloud does look interesting though...

I cannot confirm that. I have the current version Panda Cloud Antivirus Free 1.51 here (on WindowsXP), and it just does on-access scanning unobtrusively in the background as wanted. It can additionally do on-demand scanning, of course. I actually can recommend this program.

Personally, I'm still a fan of NOD32
