$395 just for a case with keyboard? That is a lot of nostalgia. Especially when you can get a "real" one for under $20 on ebay.

I think this is just marketing hype... For one, they are using PC-Compatible parts.

And secondly the description of the "Commodore OS" as well as things like an MS Office "compatible" office suite, and statements about Open Source Software leads me to believe this is nothing but a customized Linux distro in disguise.

edit: Yeah so like I said
"Commodore OS Vision is a community driven Linux distribution for Commodore enthusiasts....."

And as for their classic offerings - its basically a Shell with modern internal hardware (and they aren't the first to do it, albeit they did it nicely).

I think its just too good to be true.. We don't live in the age of multi-architecture computing anymore. PC's are cheap and inexpensive, other than that you have Apple products..
In order to see a true "return" we'd need to see a bonafied new architecture based on the original design concepts of the classic machines, not just a fancy shell with PC parts and a customized Linux OS.

Everything those PC's do you can do with any PC you can currently buy/build... So you're paying a high price for an aesthetic look, and likely cramped form factor that would make upgrades a serious pain in the ass.. :|

I can't blame them for being original and trying to carve out a niche for themselves in the market, but its not my idea of a revival by any means..

Yeah Commodore shut down years ago, I remember watching youtube videos from a Pennsylvania factory where they made the last of the Amigas

Deathbed Vigil

Trailer for a film some guy made on the end of Commodore. I saw most of the footage in a different, narrated video. I think it was the raw cut.

This is the one I originally saw

The "some guy" is Dave Haynie

He also commented the book linked in my post above, it's the comment at the top of the comments' list.

The company still exists, i heard they produce phones.

However they do not produce this wannabe Amigas. The Amiga rights do not belong to commodore anymore and are traded several times and allready used several times to sell PC's as new Amigas or even new C64s.

Commodore USA, LLC was founded by Barry Altman in April of 2010, with the express purpose of reviving and re-establishing the famous Commodore computer brand. We are Commodore and AMIGA fanatics, just like many of you. We ask ourselves what could have been, and we are appalled by Apple revisionism. Commodore is back, and we're determined to bring the much loved brand back to the mainstream and restore its prominence in the tech industry to that which it richly deserves. It ain't over 'till we say so.
It was over years ago.. stop flogging a dead horse... Somebody please put Commodore out of their misery! jeez

I wonder if they even own the rights and licenses required to do business under the Commodore and Amiga names, as well as use trademarked and copyrighted materials
