Who said floppies are dead?
Just bought 4 new C64 games. 2 on floppy disc and 2 on cartrige.

Yep ... my father still has a floppydrive on his Windows 7 PC in use.

Out of curiosity, does anybody have a floppy over 10 years old that still works without errors? I have an old desktop hard disk that still works flawlessly after 15 years but none of my floppy media that came with it survived.

I do have a 5,25" floppy disk containing the 1980 edition of A2FS1 (the first home flight simulator in history). Still working.
But the majority of my floppy disks has errors. In my experience original software disks written to by factories are working much longer than the ones self written.

Yup, it's true, especially because quality of the floppy disk drives was (and it's) extremely variable (some step motors were not good, other times the rails were really bad, very often the electronic was sub-par, etc.), when the duplication machines had a more strict quality control at least at the moment of their production.
Another problem with the floppy disk drives was the alignment of the heads in time...
Another problem was the drive was not treated very well by the majority of the users (or collected dirt).
Add all this up and you will end with a great difficulty in reading a floppy made on drive A on another drive B.
I have a good 3"1/2 floppy drive in my PC
About the old disks questions: yes, I have some 5"1/4 disks from around 1990 and they works, I would say all of them. Different brands.

That video was great, it brought back memories of a program on the Apple to that displayed messages while the disk drive provided sound effects. We'll just say that the program was for adults only...
I too have a 3 1/2 inch floppy in my system mainly because I'm a bit old fashioned. I haven't used it in years. I also have a combination 3 1/2 inch floppy drive and memory card reader that isn't in my system and probably never will be. If I need a memory card reader I'll just get one that connects via USB.
