Any others having trouble changing the refreshrate in win98 fullscreen environment?
Read here on the boards that peeps with winXP or win2000 don't have this problem. But when it comes to win98, it kinda stick to the 60 Hz whatever you try.
Got a Compaq v700 monitor, installed the latest drivers for it ect. It can't be that.
I'm interrested to know if there's any win98 user thant can change there refreshrate in PB. If so, then it must be a graphiccard driver issue for me. My graphiccard is a internal one, not the good reliable Nvdia type. Plz. give me a excuse to upgrade my freaky hardware.

Best regards
Van

Guess it's a Win98 limited thing, not beeing able to switch monitor refreshrates in fullscreen. Time to upgrade the system. 60Hz is just too flickering for my eyes in the long run.

Might be that your monitor is not capable of the refresh rate you're requesting, and the command fails because of this? Don't know how old the Compaq v700 is, but it may have a maximum rate below what you want. There's a way, I think, through the API to find out what your driver is capable of. I'm new here: Maybe there's a PB command that does this already?

Anyway, hope this helps.

Oh wait...You say that it works ok under XP/2k with the same hardware (dual boot system?)? If so, then I would have to say that it probably is a Win98 issue.

I can do 100Hz with the Compaq v700 on the windows desktop. Will test in a few days if win98 can go below 60Hz with the SetRefreshRate() command. But I'm satisfied with just running win2K instead, no need to ring the Fred Alarm.
Fullscreen app's is mostly for games, and imho 60Hz is too icky to watch. Specially if you have a clear white background.

It would interesting to get the capabilities of the monitor/driver and then allow the user to choose which mode they'd like to run in. That way, everyone is happy, although a little extra coding to adapt to the different rates would be needed (no big deal). Different resolutions would be another thing, though, as the gfx would get screwed up (probably).

Take care,
Russell
