Purebasic for Mobile
Purebasic for Mobile
I was testing Purebasic for a few weeks and I like everything on it, I really enjoy programming in Purebasic, Its a refreshing experience that remember me my first programming in Turbo Pascal when everything was straighforward. I really like Purebasic fast native compilation and old school procedural aproach, the ide it's just the best ide ever, fast (I know a lot... of ides), usefull and practical.
I wonder if Purebasic have plans to go mobile too. I know that is a fast market and today mobile platforms get obsolete tomorrow but some mobile platforms looks solid enough to move on.
Its just a idea
Best regards

Re: Purebasic for Mobile
I also hope that PB will compile for mobile platforms in the future. I'm sure it will happen, eventually.
Just now, as you say, the market is pretty unstable with new technologies emerging every year so I think Fred & co. are right to wait until it settles down.
Eventually, though, it will be insane for PB not to work for mobiles, as that will be where at least 50% of programs are used.

Re: Purebasic for Mobile
PB has thrived on the traditional PC platforms, despite a myriad of BASIC dialect languages.
I wouldn't put the nails in the coffin just yet.

But there were none that were as cross-platform as PB. I know because I tried most that claimed to be cross-platform.Zach wrote:PB has thrived on the traditional PC platforms, despite a myriad of BASIC dialect languages.
I'm not. They can continue along the current path. But should they decide to support Android, they will have a very tough time improving on Basic4Android. Check it out for yourself.Zach wrote:I wouldn't put the nails in the coffin just yet.

This is only for Android, what about everything else ?
Re: Purebasic for Mobile
Actually, BlitzMax is much more cross-platform than PB. It offers a better native solution in Mac OSX, as they use Cocoa which doesn't have the flows I reported on this forum.dhouston wrote:But there were none that were as cross-platform as PB. (however, I'd never use BlitzMax, and PB has many other features BMax hasn't).
As per a mobile solution, it'd need a separate product as it's completely different to PC re GUI components. Thus you'd need maybe a mobile cross platform precompiler, but certainly not a compiler that do computers and mobiles.
Re: Purebasic for Mobile
I dont think it's that different. You just need a additional mobile GUI lib. Even then the differences are not that big. And anything else is the same.Polo wrote: As per a mobile solution, it'd need a separate product as it's completely different to PC re GUI components. Re: Purebasic for Mobile
Well I consider Blitzmax an abandoned product just like Blitz3D and BlitzPlus now Blitz its on Monkey.Polo wrote: Actually, BlitzMax is much more cross-platform than PB. It offers a better native solution in Mac OSX, as they use Cocoa which doesn't have the flows I reported on this forum.

Re: Purebasic for Mobile
Mac support is very new in PB. When BM was first released, it was Mac only and the other versions appeared within a couple of months.Polo wrote: Actually, BlitzMax is much more cross-platform than PB. Which will be completely abandoned in 3-5 years when a new product appearsjboadas wrote:now Blitz its on Monkey..

Best wishes to the PB community. Thank you for the memories.

I don't think it can for Apple, because of the licensing issues.
You can only write apps for Apple using an actual Macintosh,
and even then by only using their approved coding languages.
(Well, unless things have changed recently, but I doubt it).

I compile using 5.31 (x86) on Win 7 Ultimate (64-bit).

Re: Purebasic for Mobile
That looks interesting, though it's very basic, mostly an office app type gui, much more is needed for mobile phones. What is nice though is that it's cross platform. You can probably produce good cross platform apps for mobiles using HTML 5? It would be really great if Fantaisie could support Android - it's currently taking over the world!

If it sounds simple, you have not grasped the complexity.
